Severe weather shuts down Day 1 at Augusta

Published

on

Augusta National closed its gates at 10 a.m. ET Monday morning in response to severe weather in the area, putting a stop to practice rounds and shutting out spectators from Day 1 at the Masters.

“We are disappointed that our patrons could not enjoy today’s practice round, however safety must be our first concern,” said Billy Payne, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. “We look forward to seeing these patrons next year.”

Patrons who bought tickets for Monday’s practice round will be sent refunds in May, and they will be guaranteed an opportunity to purchase 2015 practice round tickets.

According to Weather.com, more than 1 inch of rain could fall at Augusta National by the end of the day. On the bright side, Monday’s rain should be the only precipitation to fall at the course this week.

The Masters always gets things right. That’s awesome that they are providing that opportunity next year to those people!

Hope it stays fine for this Major. Nothing worse than settling down here in the Evening and it’s delayed 🙂

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
