Streelman birdies seven straight to win Travelers Championship

Published

While the sports world was captivated by Michelle Wie and World Cup soccer, Kevin Streelman was making history with a scorching hot putter.

Streelman birdied his final seven holes, shooting a back-nine 28 including birdies on his last seven holes to win the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. He became the only player to birdie seven holes in a row to win on the PGA Tour, and one-putted every green over the closing nine holes on his way to a final round 64.

“It was just one of those days where I felt like I couldn’t miss,” Streelman said in an interview with the Golf Channel.

With his best Babe Ruth impression, Streelman called his shot entering the closing nine holes.

“He goes, ‘We’re going to shoot 29 on the back,'” caddy A.J. Montecinos said following the round.

His lofty prediction turned out to be one-stroke too many.

After the seven-birdie spectacle, Streelman stood alongside his wife and caddy, hugging his baby daughter as he hoped to hang on and capture his second PGA Tour victory. His comeback magic was not to be outdone by the closing groups.

He edged out K.J. Choi and Sergio Garcia by one stroke, with Australian Aaron Baddeley another stroke behind them. Choi and Garcia, in their last attempts at forcing a playoff, each missed lengthy putts on hole No. 18 and posted final round 67’s. Baddeley missed out on an opportunity of his own, missing the fairway at the last, which ended his chances at any final hole heroics.

With only nine weeks remaining in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup regular season, players are focusing in and looking for crucial wins. For now, however, Streelman can celebrate his victory, which pushed him into the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings.

The next tour stop will be the Quicken Loans Championships on June 26, located in Bethesda, Md, at Congressional Country Club where Tiger Woods will make his return to competitive golf.

He is a very nice guy, happy for him. I met him when I was working at the US Bank Championship. One of the good ones on tour.

GolfWRX is on site for the second major of 2026: The PGA Championship from Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The tournament’s location, just outside Philadelphia, and its status as a major championship mean GolfWRXers are in for a treat: WITBs from a strong field, custom gear celebrating the PGA Championship, and the rich culture of the City of Brotherly Love — we have noted a relative absence of cheesesteak-themed items thus far this week, but most of the rest of the usual suspects are well represented.
