Published

on

GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine. So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz. Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

Is Tiger done?

SP17_GLF_Tiger_NikeTW17_890955_001-C4A7295

WRXer DrSchteeve begged the question everyone is asking (even those who think speculation is pointless): Is Tiger Woods finished? He titled the thread diplomatically (“Should Topic Title Be: Tiger Is Done, or Is Tiger Done?”) but offered his take: TW will never return to his winning ways.

To see what WRXers think about the 14-time major champ’s future after a poor showing at Torrey Pines and a withdraw from the Dubai Desert Classic, check out the thread.

PXG HQ Tour

Would you like to take a tour of PXG’s headquarters? Can’t make it to Scottsdale? We’ve got you covered. Check out this photo buffet from the upstart clubmaker’s headquarters to see, among other things, a few pretty sick motorcycles. Check out the thread.

Hot takes on Parsons’ pledge

ParsonPXGirons

Continuing the Parsons theme, the PXG founder’s claims that in addition to ultra-premium offerings, the Arizona-based company will experiment with ultra, ultra-premium weaponry generated no shortage of opinions in the golf space. You’ll want to see what WRXers have to say about this one.

How far do you hit your 3-wood from the fairway?

Player23wood

290 carry! But really, there’s plenty of latitude in how far golfers, even good golfers, can hit their 3 woods from the fairway. Without a clean, center strike, you’re probably not carrying it more than 225, right? To formulate an average, have a look at baller4opca’s thread.

The most overrated course you’ve played?

A thread that has more opinions than there are haters of TPC Sawgrass.

At the end of the day, golf course design is an art. And like any art, opinions as to the quality of a work are varied depending on a person’s subjective criteria. Grizz06’s thread from 2015 is 20 pages deep with stories of overrated venues (and plenty of rebuttals). Check it out.

He looks uncomfortable on the course. He may play through his poor play but does he have the physical ability? Paired with the best at Torrey and then two of the European tours best ,Tiger looked very inadequate . I keep hearing commentators talk about coming back when he is physically able and to take his time. I am not hearing anyone talk about the fact that this may be is good as he will get despite taking more time. He has given us so much on the course with his incredible play and record but he is the old war horse now and looks the part. I hope he is able to keep playing and spiking interest in perhaps make a run at the major record.

The forums would actually prefer is he literally died. I mean actually dropped dead. The haters hate him so badly that is their end goal.

Well, we know his game died a long time ago and if he keeps playing this way he’ll kill taylormade, too.

I can only hope that for all the golfers who flocked to the gym to follow Tigers success will take a time out and re-evaluate what has happened to Tiger. Most experts will tell you flexibility is required in golf not hulk like muscles. Rory& company should take notice now before it’s too late

Sorry, but Tiger’s experiences are his own. Everyone is different. Gym work is done by most everyone on Tour right now. The physio trailers are packed week in and week out. Most guys are not trying to max out and deadlift 500 lbs. Weights and a stretching program, if done correctly and done within one’s own limits, can and usually is very beneficial to the golf game. The strengthening of muscles, especially in the lumbar/back area, will help most and not be a detriment.

That’s right…most touring pros don’t work out like they’re preparing for the Mr. Olympia.

Assuming Tiger’s back problems came from the gym or golf course, as opposed to the bedroom.

As long as he got his appearance fee, what does it matter?

    • cgasucks

      Feb 3, 2017 at 4:57 pm

People who pay people like Tiger major $$$ expect him to make the cut and play the weekend. They can only be fooled for so long and he won’t command any appearance fees or get a reduction of those fees if he keeps missing cuts. Just ask John Daly when he was playing in his prime.

Perhaps it will never be broken ever. The game isn’t close to the same as it was back then.

YES, he is finished, especially wrt winning again

It was sad to see him struggle so badly over the past few weeks, and I am by no means a fan

It was like the last few years of Seve’s career

He should retire now and give up all the comeback nonsense

What’s the point of these articles? Every tournament he plays in this same question is asked. Just let the damn guy play some golf. Sheesh.

Another excuse for WD’s, the back seems to flare up with poor play

I think it’s over for Tiger. I think he fell into the vanity trap years ago putting muscle on that really does nothing for the golf swing, or the back. I still scratch my head though wondering how a guy with a serious back issue is able to keep lifting weights and keep that muscle on his frame even at 41…

I’m a 31 year-old male and I turned my apartment living room into a driving range stall – GolfWRXers react

Published

In our forums, our members have been reacting to a post from ‘GolferTodd’ who has turned their apartment living room into a driving range stall. ‘GolferTodd’ produced the following photo in our forums with the caption:

“To the exclusion of furniture. Bachelor life.”

And our members have been reacting to the post in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • MtlJeff: “This is amazing……When i was 28 i lived in an apartment that had my winter tires in the kitchen, i only had one plate and 1 set of knives and forks, and i cooked pasta in a witches cauldron from 1835. And i still convinced a woman to marry me. So i am all for this. In fact this is way better than what i had to offer.”
  • TiScape: “Love it Todd. Go Dodgers!!”
  • imkirby34: “Based on the view out the window, it looks like you’re on the first floor, which is probably a good thing because I’d hate to live below you, even if you have an extremely shallow AoA.  Haha.”

Best classic irons – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing classic irons. WRXer ‘DonaldDunes’ has caught the vintage club bug, and wants to know other members’ favorite iron models that “have stood the test of time or were the top performers for their day.”

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Maine Golfer: “I love a lot of clubs but ’69 Wilson Staff’s are an all time favorite. Easy to hit in relative terms and they look amazing.”
  • Wilsonian: “No surprise from me, but the Wilson K-28 irons, specifically blades with the glide thru sole. I grew up playing Ram clubs, but got away from them as I got older. My return to vintage was with the Wilsons, and my first set of hickories were the Wilson Plus Success irons. You’ll try a lot of sets, but I think it’s a matter of what feels best in your hands, specifically your 7 iron which is the best indicator imo.”
  • Hawkeye777: “Hogan Redlines. Macgregor Nicklaus Muirfield 20th. Wilson Staff Tour Blade. Those are mine, don’t play any of them these days (no real reason to) and didn’t really “collect” them.  The Wilsons I played with for years.”

When buying used irons how much wear is too much? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing how much wear is too much wear when purchasing used irons. WRXer ‘con_mon2’ is interested in a used set of iron and kicks off the thread, asking:

“Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this! How much wear are you comfortable with?

I found a set of irons on eBay that I am very interested in buying, but they have a bit more wear than I’m comfortable with. I have attached a few pictures showing especially the wear on the sweet spot on the PW and 9 iron. Maybe you can convince me that I’m being too picky and I should just buy them? Or maybe I should be concerned about the wear? I’m not really sure. They are Ping i230s which came out in 2022 so they aren’t that old. And the seller had this to say about the condition: ‘Good: Normal wear for their age. Excellent playing condition but they have cosmetic wear on faces and soles. Sweetspot wear is visible.’

Beyond the cosmetic, I’d really like to know this: At what point do you start to worry about the grooves being so worn that they have a substantial effect on the shots you’re hitting?”

And our members have been sharing their thoughts in response.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • rsballer10: “The term you are looking for is “browning” and these irons have some of that going on. They are completely playable, but I’d say they’ve reached their half-life.”
  • Nessism: “Those heads are stainless steel.  The “browning” that some people reference, is really the yellow shade of the nickel layer under the chrome. When forged carbon steel heads wear through the chrome, the “brown” is RUST.  These heads will never rust. People applaud the old Ping irons as being “indestructible”.  Those heads had no chrome. These heads, even if the chrome is beginning to wear through, on one head, are miles more durable than the older unplated “indestructible” Ping’s.  And even further ahead of any forged club.”
  • phizzy30: “Hard pass for me.  I would rather get a new set of DTC irons and would be glad to spend the extra couple to few hundred.”
