Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company closes down after pandemic struggles
Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company has confirmed that the business is no longer active after closing its doors last Friday, July 22, 2022.
The company enjoyed a re-inception in 2017, which included its majority shareholder and Manager of the Board for the BHGEC, Ex Works Capital, LLC, acting as the company’s primary source of funding.
However, according to BHGEQ’s CEO and President Scott White, after their investment portfolio was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the shareholder ceased providing financial support to BHGEC in late 2020.
In an email to GolfWRX, White stated:
“I am very proud of what we accomplished at the Company over the last few years. We had a great team and produced some excellent products that we think would have made Mr. Hogan proud. We were simply underfunded and couldn’t pursue a lot of the more expensive initiatives that would have accelerated our growth.”
Per White, after understanding that they could not provide the capital to the BHGEC to fuel continued growth, ExWorks Capital began a sales process (managed by Chiron Financial Investment Bank) in mid-2021 to identify new investors and/or sources of funding. This process was mostly unsuccessful for several reasons, and ExWorks Financial filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2022.
Despite this, White added that BHGEC was mostly self-sufficient in 2021 and enjoyed its best year ever since pivoting to its DTC business model in 2017. Per White, the average revenue growth rate (2017 – 2022) was over 46.3%, while the company was break even at an operating level in 2021 and would have achieved (and surpassed) profitability targets if not for supply and financial constraints.
The website is still currently operating but features a banner noting that it is “unable to process orders.” While the company closed last Friday, White revealed in the email that he hoped it wouldn’t be permanent but added that it might well be.

Tour Edge unveils all-new Exotics mini driver
Tour Edge Golf has today introduced the all-new Exotics mini driver, engineered to deliver a powerful combination of speed, control, and versatility in the long game.
The Exotics Mini combines a titanium face with a stainless-steel body in design to balance ball speed with stability and control, creating a versatile option at the top end of the bag.

At the core of the design is Tour Edge’s proprietary Combo Brazing technology, a high-precision thermal bonding process that seamlessly fuses a titanium cup face to a stainless-steel body into a single, continuous structure. By eliminating energy loss found in traditional multi-piece constructions, Combo Brazing is designed to deliver faster face response, more efficient energy transfer, and a uniquely powerful yet controlled feel.

The multi-material construction also allows mass to be positioned lower and deeper in the head in a bid to increase stability, while the thin titanium face is engineered to maintain ball speed across a wider impact area.

“While the initial goal was to enhance control and versatility in the long game, Combo Brazing ultimately drove measurable gains in ball speed and distance within the mini driver category. In robot testing, we’ve documented higher ball speeds, higher launch, reduced spin, and increased carry and total distance compared to leading models.” – Vice President of R&D Matt Neeley

In addition to distance performance, the Exotics mini emphasizes forgiveness through a heavier stainless-steel body that shifts mass toward the perimeter. This configuration increases MOI relative to traditional all-titanium mini drivers, helping preserve ball speed and directional stability on off-center strikes. Paired with Pyramid Face Technology from the Exotics metalwood line, the design is intended to support consistent speed across the face.

To further enhance MOI, a lightweight carbon fiber crown frees additional mass that is strategically repositioned low and deep in the head in design to improve stability and promote optimal launch with controlled spin.

“We designed the Mini to be about five millimeters shallower than other mini drivers on the market. That change improves playability off the deck. From a clean fairway lie, it can function as a strong 3-wood alternative while still providing control off the tee.” – Tour Edge CEO David Glod
An adjustable hosel system allows for loft and lie tuning to dial in trajectory and shot shape, while a fixed 13-gram rear weight helps stabilize the head through impact to improve dispersion consistency. The Exotics Mini Driver is available in 11.5 and 13.5-degree lofts in right-handed models.

Pricing & Availability
The Exotics Mini Driver is available for pre-order beginning today for $399.99 USD at touredge.com, and will be available for purchase at retail outlets worldwide on May 22, 2026.

Srixon ZXi combo or TaylorMade P7CB/770 combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been pitting a Srixon ZXi combo against a TaylorMade P7CB/770 combo. WRXer ‘edutch22’ is on the hunt for a new set of irons and kicks off the thread saying:
“Looking at picking up a new set of irons and think I’ve narrowed it down to Srixon ZXi combo or Taylormade P7CB/770 combo. I am currently a 5 cap and allbeit I feel irons are my weakness. My miss is a little to the toe side. I am decently steep at 4-5 down. Always thought I am high spin but recently on trackman my 7 was spinning at 5800 roughly.
My question or looking for thoughts on which one would benefit me more from a forgiveness standpoint? Or is there another iron is should be looking at entirely? I only get to play about once or twice a week, if I am not playing a 2-3 day event. Thanks in advance.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts and suggestions in response.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- manima1: “You just can’t go wrong with Srixon ZXi7.”
- MattM97: “You have to hit them to know, the V-Sole on the Srixon can be make or break for many.”
- dmeeksDC: “P7CB is more forgiving for me than ZXi7 because my main miss is low middle and the P7CB still flies and spins great on that miss. These are both really nice irons but I like the P7CB more than the Zxi7 and the P770 (or P790) more than the Zxi5. The Srixons are larger so if that gives you confidence that is the way to go. I don’t feel like I get any benefit from the V-sole and the P7CBs live up to their high Maltby forgiveness rating so the TaylorMades have been great for me.”

To be growing nicely and breaking even in the super popular golf industry in mid 2021, the period we will all look back on as the easiest funding environment maybe ever, and not be able to find any financing/investment to keep the business going? Think some further probing is warranted there…glad I didn’t have any money with that investment firm!

Not a surprise at all. Most golfers only want to buy gear “the pros play” and why component makers have pretty much gone the way of the dodo and are picked up by Golfsmith.
PXG is only still alive because they are funded by billionaire and he is willing to lose money or have minimal returns (PXG is probably the equivalent of a lemonade stand for the rest of us).
I was a huge Hogan fan and have many sets of original Hogan irons that I still play when I play “classics” during the summer. Amazingly you can still pick up a pristine set of circa 70s or 80s Hogan irons for $150-300, and they perform just as good as modern blade irons.
BHGEC could have made it if they sold at component prices, but their price-point was too high for a DTC model, and they didn’t have as deep pockets as Bob Parsons.
C’est la vie…

Sad to see the company go. I’ve played the Fort Worth 15 irons since 2017. Their equalizer wedges, hybrids and fairway woods are really good. But, they catered to a diminishing niche. Nice while it lasted.

So is there any way for us to buy the remaining stock that needs to be liquidated? I read that a stipulation of the Ownership required that nothing else be sold with the Hogan name, but what will happen to all the existing stock? I would love to pick up a set of PTX Pro’s for 1/2 off!

The Hogan DTC concept substituted American assembly for Chinese assembly of Chinese made parts in order to allow customizing. Saved the retail store markup, but couldn’t produce enough volume to pay for the TV ads they bought this year. Perhaps also had to pay rental on the Hogan name from Callaway.

Here is the answer for Hogan, make a deal with Dicks.. Dicks has saved a lot of brand names and Ben Hogan clubs would be a quality addition to their line up a step above Tommy Armour.

Good example why capitalism is a failure: always searching for growth/increased profits. Ben Hogan golf did not close down because they were making a loss, but because they couldn’t grow enough for their investors.

This is the most ignorant thing on this site ever. If you aren’t looking for growth or profits then there’s no point in owning a business. This is why probably you are broke or close to it.

Wow, the amount of commies in this place is amazing and pathetic. Hope you all get your clubs at the salvation army and you play golf in your backyard as that is the only way your stance on capitalism makes any sense.
Btw, you must be stealing your neighbors internet as those ISP companies sure do make a profit too. How can you afford it?

Straight to the childish insults, as always with you online windbags.
There is a big difference between making a fair / decent profit and outright GREED.
I could add at least a dozen easy insults, but then id be at your level.

As usual…
Straight to the childish insults. Speaks to your character IMO.
There is a big difference between a fair profit and outright GREED. Then again as you have 5,000 worth of PXG in your bag, who am i to tell you how to be a total sucker right?
People in glasshouses, as usual… SMFH.

DTC isn’t really appealing to most people for something as personal and subjective as golf clubs. I seriously considered the PTX Pro when I was shopping for new irons, but I couldn’t hit them so I didn’t buy them. I know they had some demo program, but that is just too much effort. When I’m buying new equipment I go to the store, hit the ones I like, and get what feels the best.

Unless im testing outside, i aint buying

In an ideal world I’d agree with you. Unfortunately the hitting bay is the only place I can go hit all the current equipment back to back. Not disappointed with my Wilson Staff Model CBs though.
